Objectives

At the completion of this unit the participant should be able to:

  1. Outline the prevalence of urinary incontinence in the adult population
  2. Identify the different types of incontinence and their related symptoms
  3. Identify risk factors and transient causes of urinary incontinence
  4. Outline a specific approach to assessment of urinary incontinence
  5. Describe to patients the appropriate treatment options with a focus on conservative management
  6. Advise patients about simple conservative interventions
  7. Advise patients about containment devices used in urinary incontinence
